When electrically charged, the paint particles migrate and bond with the aluminum, copper, and other conductive metal surfaces that make up the heat exchanger coils. The resin and pigment migrate into the part, and a uniform organic film is irreversibly deposited. ElectroFin E-Coat is ideal for coastal and marine environments, as well as for industrial areas with high humidity and aggressive atmospheres, such as electric power plants, refineries, wastewater treatment plants, and urban areas with near-permanent condensation and high pollution. The coil shall have a flexible epoxy polymer coating applied uniformly to all coil surface areas without bowing of material between the fins. The coating process shall ensure complete encapsulation of the coil and a uniform dry film thickness of 0.6 to 1.2 mil on all surfaces (including fin edges) and shall meet 5B cross-adhesion classification per ASTM B3359. Corrosion durability shall be confirmed by testing of not less than 10,000 hours of salt spray resistance per ASTM B117 or scribed aluminum as test coupons. Coils subjected to ultraviolet (UV) exposure will receive a spray-applied UV-resistant topcoat to prevent UV degradation of the electrodeposition coating epoxy film.
ElectroFin E-Coat extends the life of HVAC/R coils and heat transfer components, reduces maintenance and operating costs, and is used by all major OEMs. E-Coat-coated coils successfully pass ASTM B117 salt spray tests exceeding 10,000 hours. It is the only process that can guarantee 100% coil coverage without bridging, including enhanced finning of up to 30 fins per inch.
